Version tracking in Odoo demands decisions more often than in other ERPs. An annual release cycle and a limited support window make upgrading a regular piece of work.
01. Where Things Stand
Odoo 18 is the current stable release and is supported through October 2027. Odoo 19 is in the release pipeline, with workflow automation and operational improvements as headline themes.
02. The Support Window
Odoo generally supports the last three versions. Staying on an old one means going without security patches and new modules. Skipping versions is possible, but the larger the jump the higher the migration cost.
03. The Customisation Factor
What determines upgrade cost isn't Odoo itself but the modules you had built. Every customisation needs testing and adaptation on the new version, which is why a customisation inventory should be kept.
04. Community versus Enterprise
Enterprise includes an upgrade service and support; on Community that work falls entirely to you or your partner. This item is frequently skipped in long-term cost calculations.
05. When to Upgrade
Not the moment a new version ships, but after the first fix packs land. On the other hand, once support has under a year left, deferring is no longer an option.
06. Turkish Localisation
Before upgrading, confirm the localisation modules are ready on the target version. E-invoicing and accounting adaptations are version-dependent and can arrive late.
