What Is Odoo? The Structure and Advantages of Open-Source ERP

The core features that set Odoo ERP apart from other systems: modular structure, open source and community support. Why should enterprises consider it?

Odoo Open Source ERP Modular

Odoo is a Belgium-based open-source ERP platform that has reached 12+ million users worldwide. It's also used on its own as an accounting program, a CRM or an e-commerce tool; but its real power emerges when all these modules talk in the same database. We take a detailed look at the core features that set Odoo — which has spread rapidly in the Turkish market in recent years — apart from the rest.

01. Modular Architecture: 40+ Main Apps

The heart of Odoo is its modular structure. 40+ main modules like accounting, purchasing, manufacturing, inventory, CRM, HR, POS and e-commerce, plus 30,000+ community modules, can be installed independently and talk to each other seamlessly. New modules are added as needs grow; you can start with a minimal configuration.

02. Community vs Enterprise

There are two editions:

  • Community: completely free, open source (LGPLv3)
  • Enterprise: an annual per-user license, extra modules (accounting, employee portal, advanced Studio)

It's possible to start with Community and later move to Enterprise. Enterprise offers official support and additional functions.

03. Odoo Studio: Customization Without Writing Code

The Studio module in Enterprise lets you customize forms, fields and workflows with a drag-and-drop interface. It significantly solves the "every change requires a developer" problem of classic ERPs.

04. Turkey Localization and E-Invoice

Odoo's Turkey localization package includes the uniform chart of accounts, VAT, and E-Invoice and E-Dispatch integrations. Modules integrated with tax-authority-compliant partners (Uyumsoft, İzibiz, etc.) are available.

05. Who Is It For?

Odoo fits especially these profiles well: manufacturing, distribution and service companies in the 20-250 person range; mid-sized companies that want to standardize their existing processes but don't have the budget for SAP; tech-savvy companies with their own developer team.
