Odoo releases one major version a year. Odoo 17 (end of 2023) and Odoo 18 (end of 2024) advanced the platform significantly with the innovations they brought. For enterprise users, the most important changes are AI integration, an interface revision and performance improvements.
01. AI Integration
AI features that began with Odoo 17 and deepened in 18:
- Email reply suggestions (sales, support)
- Invoice reading with OCR (supplier invoices)
- Automatic product-description generation
- Customer-classification suggestions
It can use OpenAI and its own AI engine together.
02. Interface Revision
With Odoo 18, the interface moved to a flatter, modern design. Menus were simplified, and the mobile experience improved considerably. Keyboard shortcuts and dropdown navigation are faster.
03. Performance
The new ORM was partially rewritten; query times on large data sets dropped by 30-50%. The difference is felt especially in multi-row lists and charts.
04. New Modules
Notable modules added in Odoo 18: Loyalty, Sign 2.0 (electronic signature), Field Service improvements, and AI-supported search in the Documents module.
05. Migration Process
Migration from Odoo 15 or 16 to 17/18 is manual in the community edition; in Enterprise, Odoo itself provides migration scripts. If there are custom modules, they must be tested in a test environment; every major version can contain breaking changes.
