No matter how good the content is, if the technical SEO foundation isn't healthy, Google won't reward the site. A technical audit measures a site's health across 12 checkpoints. This article is that checklist.
01. Sitemap (Sitemap.xml)
Contains all important pages, is updated regularly, and is submitted to Google Search Console. Split sitemaps for more than 50,000 URLs.
02. Robots.txt
Clear on what's allowed and what's blocked. Wrong blocking causes serious ranking loss.
03. Canonical Tags
Where the same content lives on multiple URLs (parameterized URLs, similar product pages), canonical is essential.
04. HTTPS and Security
SSL is mandatory. Mixed-content (http:// image) warnings should be eliminated.
05. Mobile Friendliness
Google uses mobile-first indexing. The site must be fully functional on mobile.
06. Core Web Vitals
The status of the LCP, INP and CLS metrics in Google Search Console should be monitored regularly.
07. Structured Data (Schema)
Organization, Article, Product, FAQ and Breadcrumb schemas should be applied. Rich results increase click-through rate.
08. Internal Linking Structure
Pages should link to each other. No page should remain an "orphan" (receiving no links).
09. 404s and Redirects
Broken links should be fixed, and unnecessary redirect chains (301 → 301 → 301) eliminated.
10. Site Structure and URLs
Hierarchical, short, descriptive URLs. The /category/subcategory/product format is ideal.
11. Speed and Compression
Images optimized, HTML/CSS/JS minified, Gzip or Brotli compression active.
12. Analytics and Search Console
GA4 and Google Search Console set up and monitored; errors visible immediately.
