Business continuity and disaster recovery (DR) are the insurance of critical infrastructure. Teletek's local data centers are a natural choice for within-Turkey DR solutions with low latency.
01. RPO and RTO Concepts
Two basic concepts:
- RPO (Recovery Point Objective): the maximum amount of data you can afford to lose
- RTO (Recovery Time Objective): the maximum acceptable downtime
Targets like a 15-minute RPO and 1-hour RTO are set based on business criticality.
02. Backup Strategies
Typical backup approaches at Teletek:
- Daily full backup
- Hourly incremental backup
- A replica in a different data center
- Long-term cold archive (Tier IV cold storage)
03. DR Site Models
Different DR site types:
- Cold Site: hardware ready but data manual
- Warm Site: data current but the application must be started
- Hot Site: application always running, instant failover
04. DR Test Frequency
If the DR plan isn't tested, it's not guaranteed to work in a real disaster. A planned test at least twice a year is recommended; problems found are documented and fixed.
05. Sectoral Regulation
Regulators set minimum DR criteria for critical infrastructure. DR in a local data center is more compliant with these regulations.
